2023’s weather generated trail closures and reroutes was a tipping point for VASA trail mapping. It clearly showed the value of the Ride Command gps app.
The ever-evolving trail status and increasing cost to produce paper maps that are frequently outdated by the time the members receive them led the Board of Directors to take a hard look at the viability to continue producing them. The issue was discussed at the September Board meeting, and it was voted to discontinue printing paper maps. VASA partnered with Polaris Ride Command three seasons ago and has been providing them with gps files for accuracy. It has proven to be an essential tool as ATV riding continues to grow in Vermont, all at no cost to VASA or our individual members. Clubs will have the remaining printed maps available for members on request.
The saving accrued by no longer producing statewide paper maps will be earmarked to trail development and maintenance.
We have produced a Ride Command for Beginners, how to get started video. It was recorded by a member in a conversational style for members that new to navigational apps, for members familiar with gps apps looking for tips Polaris offers tutorials on their website, links below. As always feel free to contact the VASA office or your local club for assistance getting started.
